Seminar Trans-Atlantic Relations

On Wednesday July 3rd the Netherlands Atlantic Association organizes a seminar themed: Trans-Atlantic Relations: Continuity and Discontinuity in a Multi-layered Relationship
This year will be crucial for the European-American relationship and its main institutions, NATO and the EU. Changes will take place in the field of trade and security policies, and there will be leadership elections in the EU. In addition, more structural changes are looming: political uncertainties in national capitals and unpredictable events, which may pose security risks for the Euro-Atlantic area.
This seminar aims to assess the most urgent questions for the trans-Atlantic community today in a broader context. Among the most important events ahead sparking these questions are:
- Brexit: What will it mean for NATO and EU?
- local elections in Germany: How will these affect German national policies?
- leadership change at EU level: Change in what direction?
- NATO and trans-Atlantic security: NATO at 70, is it ready for the next challenges?
- European defense efforts: Opportunity or opportunism? And at what cost?
- rivalry with Asian powers: Are the European markets ready to compete with Asian and American giants? What needs to be done?
- unresolved conflicts in Ukraine, A matter of priorities or capabilities?
